Frequently Asked Questions

Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

Are you certified to work on homes with lead-based paint?
Yes, we are a Certified Firm through Washington state and may work on renovation and remodeling projects that involve the disturbance of lead paint. We have trained Certified Renovators who make sure that this work is done in such a way that your family and neighbors are fully protected.

Why do the estimates I receive vary so much in price?
There are many types of painters, and every job is unique. Different procedures for preparation and painting may be a factor, or the type of work in which the company specializes. It’s a good idea to make sure you compare “apples to apples” to make sure you get quality and value as well as a good price.

Does someone need to be home for the estimate?
Yes, it’s always better to meet in person to make sure we have the best possible understanding of your project needs.

What kind of preparation do you do?
Proper preparation is crucial to a long-lasting paint job. Pressure-washing, caulking, scraping, sanding, and priming are key components of our work. With the foundation of adequate preparation, your painting work should be durable and should look terrific for years to come.

What kind of paint do you use?
90% of the time we use Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paints.

Do you brush or spray?
This depends on the substrate and circumstance – we will do what makes the most sense in each particular circumstance. A common misconception in regard to exterior painting is that brushing is always better than spraying, but this may not necessarily be the case.

Do you use latex or oil-based paint?
The advancement in acrylic (water soluble) paint technology in recent years is impressive. We now use acrylics for most of our projects.

What do we need to do in order to get prepared for the job?
As long as we have adequate access, just brace yourself for an incredible transformation!

Do you paint decks and fences?

How do I pick colors?
Selecting colors can be tricky. A shade off in one direction or another can make all the difference. Many people get stuck in paint color paralysis. If you are struggling with color, we can recommend a color consultant to help you with the process.

What are VOCs?
VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, are solvents that are released into the air as paint dries. VOCs are a concern because they can cause acute symptoms, including headaches and dizziness. Some are suspected to be carcinogens.

How do I dispose of old paint?
Oil-based paint must be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Latex paint can be dried up with paint hardener or kitty litter and can be treated as regular garbage.

Do you use any day labor or seasonal labor?
No. All of our employees are full time professional painters.

Do you warranty your work?
Yes, we generally provide at least a three-year warranty on exterior work.

Can you give me the exact date you’ll be starting my project?
We are not able to schedule firm dates for exterior painting projects. We are always at the mercy of changeable weather conditions, work being completed by other trades, and projects that change or grow in scope. We can, however, target a window of time that works best for you.

How long will my project take?
After an estimate, we can provide you with a general idea (within a day or two) of how many days your job will require.
